Insight about my Tamil Society - Part 1

Posted by rajaganapathy on May 19, 2008

Hi everyone, I came here to encarve my anger about my people, society with whom i grew up, with whom i learned, played, ate, fought, & slept.

Everyone will talk, feels pride about the country, society, people they grew up with, till they never exposed to  a  good, harmless, violenceless society and the society where no one bothers about others private life, society where you can only concentrate on things to progress on your life rather than fighting for your self respect, basic freedom to practise any good things you wish.

Well, i grew up from a remote village in Tirunelveli and settled down at Singapore as of now and I found my life partner here. The moment my friends and relatives heard about me marrying a nice girl from different culture , tradition, background, they jumped from ground to sky saying, how come you can go away from our tradition, culture, blah, blah … Ok guys, tell me what’s the best about your culture to me to follow still, like my forefathers?  Whats that great about your society , which i should adopt?

Do you think I’m not aware, a cow’s dung is enough for you people to fire buses , vehicles and announce a bandh.

some say me , man , tamil culture is so old , we have tradition from 2000 or 3000 years before ? tell me whats your tradition is ? fighing and killing people in name of caste , religion etc , etc.Thadi yeduthvan yellam thandal karan and you barbarians will come with proverbs like “thustanai kandal thoora vilahu” for people like me to lead a life safe and happy in our society. To adopt your culture means ,, get ready to live in any of two ways ,

1. THADI YEDU

2. THOORA VILAHU

What kind of society is that where no one respects others for their good , kind , helping deeds. Instead respects others for their caste, thaadaism?  Do i need to be the part of this society which makes you coward or a rowdy ? if you want to be a good one , be a coward otherwise be a rowdy. thats how you can lead a life in the traditinal tamil society where people are behind money and caste .

How can you expect me to think your society is the best to my kids?. I want my kids to grew up in a society where people wont lie , cheat , kill or harm others. i want my kids to mingle with innocent , hardworking , intellectual , smart friends so that he can concentrate only on things what needed to progress in life.I just want my next generation to hear violence in news and enjoy fighting only in video games and movies. All these possible in your traditional  TAMIL society ?  possible after 1000 years atleast ? No way . Its not possibe…..

One of my friend told me , man, u knew the GDP of India, u know how India’s infrastructure is developing now ? I agree , India is developing ..second fastest developing economy after china ,its doing better in most of the fields. I agree everythng .. Tell me the PEOPLE are developed ? I’m talking only about the people and the society. The real fact is, People are not matured enough to handle all these developments. Its like this man , Anbumani Ramdoss will scold the actors for smoking in movie, to stop people smoking. He is clever , he knew we cant change people by making laws otherwise they will send him out of the goverment  if he tells them directly, see what happens to Jeyalalitha where she comes with fines for spitting, smoking on public. So even leaders knew very well we cant change this barabaric society, where they feel proud for what they are doing.

Many of my friends back home told me , dont talk bad about our society its where you learnt everything. hahha . If i shouldnot have exposed to other societies, culture even me would tell the same. Our society made us “frogs of the well”.ok , what we are learning in our society , very first thing , HATE OTHER CASTES.ha ha .. Then how will i knew to respect people by their deeds rather than caste.

My anger will continue in next part ……………………………………….

Well Expressed ur feelings.. But for marrying a girl, why u r preparing these stories man? who opposed u for not marrying a foreign girl..?

  2. SPSenthil Says:

Each sort of society has its own flaws. Every flaw had some reasons on those days. Not to blame our society for the above mentioned. We, the next generation people like u & I can change it. It’s a silent revolution for move ahead, a big jump. Proud to be with our people in the midst of all hassles.

  3. Paul Says:

Have you done any thing for the society?

  4. Nellaiappan Says:

    Hi Raja ,
I accept all the things that u mentioned in ur Blog .

Tamil Society know’s all it’s flaws that it have .
For over coming those things that society gives good education to it’s next generation and expect next generation to build a healthy Indian society.
But the worst part is those next generation goes to other countries and admire on them and started scolding their own culture .

Pls add this also in ur next part with heading ” IRRESPONSIBLE NEXT GENERATION “

  5. GShunmugaSundaram Says:

Never try to change the society, people. It makes ridiculous.
    Its highly impossible.
    Just —-
BE THE CHANGE WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE IN THIS SOCIETY(WORLD) - Gandhi.

  6. Elaine P Ganapathy Says:

It’s not about changing the society, he is pointing out the facts. An eye-opener for everyone. He wants to see how people will respond to it? Are you seeing things at the same line? Or still thinking it doesnt matter? Are you willing to start the change from yourself? Or just sit there, keep the belief, and pass it to the next generation? To be able to adopt to the ever changing world makes a person competitive. To succeed & grow with changes around us, along with adopting the good habits/attitude/character is major contribution to the good change we all hope for.

  8. Elaine P Ganapathy Says:

All you guys, we don’t need to be a part of violent riots to accept the facts. We don’t need to feel the hurt to see the reality. We don’t need to watch “Crash” movie to know the existing reality about discrimination acts of others. Do we have to see God to believe Him???

Vivek, as you said, Raja did his responsibility to his family. You know it very well, as you narrated the things nicely, [guys, please refer to this site ---> http://vivekapithan.wordpress.com/2008/05/20/a-reply-letter/. He did good things to his friends & neighbors too. I am aware of it. Family, friends, neighbors are a small group might be, but these people comprises the society where he came from and where he is now. I find him brilliant, street smart, and a very helpful person. In general, he is a good-hearted person. He doesn’t need to flaunt these things as there are a lot of living proofs (including you) that he did good things to his community, in India and abroad. Lots might have misinterpreted him in a bad way, as he is a fun-loving guy, loves to mock & make fun of others. But this guy is sensible.

Let’s reflect on this: Have we done something good in our own backyard?

Before we can help others, we should help ourselves (by developing our knowledge, gaining experience, obtaining wisdom, succeeding in our career, & saving money). Let’s share the good things to others. And when we are wrong, we have to admit it, learn from it & don’t repeat it.

He is writing an article which attacks the “BAD” things in the society where he grew up (he told good stories also, to me ). [For sure, even if he grew up in a different country with different culture, he will still do the same thing (exposing the worst thing possible)]. But what is his point posting that? He wants all people to realize what kind of cancer the society has. All places/community/country in this world has its own type of cancer. As individual, let us help to cure it, even in a smallest bit possible way.

  9. real tamilan Says:

    Hi all
    Greetings to all….

i saw all review comments and the main topic..thought to throw my thoughts…

1 one person tells “in order to marry why r u telling stories”
2 one person wrote all in tamil - tells english person praised tamil
3 one person askd “hav u done anything to society”
4 One person tells “irresponsible next genetation”

ok am not here to judge all…first lets take the shit out of our minds “the bad thing which is blaming others” which is the reason our country is still under under under…………..
I have lived in other forign countries which makes me tell all things about our great indians who behave soo nicely like - not spitting/not urinating/not littering/following proper rules on roads only in other countries and in india we all do whatever we want to and tell DEMOCRATIC country….that make me more shit angryyyyyyyyyy…and tell all this which u r to read now……………

    )1
common man u tell english person is praising our tamil..how good is it to hear..but u also understand we are using the INTERNET which is not ours..why should we duplicate ourselves and be like COSMETIC HUMANS by acting..we can be normal right..common man its common blog wher all should understnad what u write why should we act too smart and put things in our own language …wher we use an english based internet to tell all things in tamil…would u have types the URL in tamil…see we need not act……when others read will they not think comon how stupid are indians…..what i tell is am not blaming but why shoould we be acting in this world…lets be natural man lets accept what others hav given us and giv back things which is possible by us .we still use all old things which the english people has developewd in our country….did we people take any steps to develop anything which they left and went…we still use those same things / same centrla railstation/same things but still. blame them….that small country ruled us for years and years ???why cause of our meak minded people … we oursleves hav 10000000’s of rules in a same country each hav their own rule in their own state….which country in the world has this tell me?????

    2) one person asked what hav u done to society…
common man what should we do and am not here to ask what hav u done..

basically if we dont spit/urinate/put garbase on roads our country wil be the top)
but i can question all people in india…..f…kng why dont you spit when u go out of the country man…..in india we see all people good else where but in india..they put bubble gum on road/.try to implement it in our country have the manners to keep ur country clean man……… basic things like manners/human respect should cme …when we try to keep our country clean then only our country will improve …dsnt matter the so called GDP is increasing in india because of our great leaders like abdul kalam..and other(ayyayo am scared to tell politicians name cause our people will make this blog like a political blog…am sorry totell….) but human respect should cme….can we follow those mentioned???????

    3) one person tells irresponsible next generation:
here am telling its because of all computers and people going and earning hard in foreign countries….the countries value has increased….and GDP has also risen…see for our people all should be given FREE of COSTTTTTT…they dont like hardwork/education//just blamre blame blame blame other…..wht the hell we do by blaming others man….first of all we should take all people to other countries and show them “how a so called human should behave \” our people first of all dnt knw what is what…sooo shame ful to tell it out..in other countries…do u knw what people tell about us..they tell indians are jealous/lazy people why do we get that name..we get all from other countries and kick themm…
its like eating peanuts/cashews nicely and finally telling it was like SHIT …..
when a person earns in other country what happens….money rotates…tax is properly paid in the country..nbut u see all majority people in india dont pay tax/..just show fradulant accounts..but the same person when u go out u pay properly tax else ur screwed up/./why dont we do the same in india also man….

i can keep on telling many many things…i hav seen many countries wher our people live so perfectly/neately/with good manners…which hav incresed the value of india..fk…g but when the same person comes and lands in chennai airport instantly spits in the road and tells “appadi ippathan nalla thiruptiya irruku”.what the hell man comon can u do the same in dubai /london/US airports??????…dont blame them man…just dont sit in a well like a frog and tell “nagellam periya alluga” shit thats what making india down get up do work hard and ther are many many things to think other than thinking about caste/creed/jealous/blaming others…etc etc…

simply to tell our people want respect but dont knw to giv it back…normally we forget the saying first give respect in order to get respect back…but our great people want respect more more more and they dont knw to giv respect instaed tell f….k offfffffffffffffffffffff… common man first try to respect ur near and dear,..respect the person who drives near to u/…when u spit from bus think that your own father or mother or sister or son would be near the bus and ur spit would fall on their head……

am telling we need not invent anything new human or build bug factories…we hav all thing sin india but if thinks lik JEALOUS/MANNERS/HUMAN RESPECT are there in all of us am telling india wil be the TOP COUNTRY….

ANYBODY who are willing to SLAP me back with your comments or responses..first make sure we are atleast ready to follow all those things….incase u scold me i dont mind but mind every time who ever reads this spits/urinates/puts garbage or buble gum/dnt follow road signals on road the moment u do that all this words will cme in to ur mind and talk to ur heart………..

    cheers

  10. Ramesh Says:

Who is acting? If anyone has exposed their thoughts in thier mother tongue, that is called as acting(what a pity!!!!!).
I am not against other languages… but when you speak in tamizh with a tamilian dont use English or Sanscrit or anyother language words.

Your thought is English people developed India and Indians(Really they have taken our wealth from here,
and they developed their country). We are using the old things which was developed by english men. but we are not following
    our own culture,literature like thirukkural,puranaanooru etc….

About politicians how many times you voted, If you voted you should select the correct politicians. if u didnt vote,
you dont have rights to speak abt the politicians.

you are cursing our people and country, have u taken any single steps to change these things?
if yes what you(any indian/tamilian) did?
Changes has to start from yourself or from your society , what you changed ?

if you have done any small things to improve our indian society,I m very proud of you.
and we can make a good society in the near future.

“Kana muyal eitha ambinil yanai pizhaitha vel enthal inithu”
(There is far more pride in holding a spear that tried to kill an elephant than carrying an arrow with which one killed a rabbit.)

And one more thing u asked to enter the URL in Tamil.. let me try to do that…
URL is not my thoughts.. I want to expose my thoughts in tamil…

  11. Elaine P Ganapathy Says:

If I put my comment in my own language, would you able to understand? How do you want to share your culture with others? Especially, in this generation, share it within your groupmates only? Will it harm you if people from other places understand your culture? Do you have somehting to hide? Why can’t we adopt something good… which will help us to grow as part of the society where we belong? How can other people understand and know you, if you are only will share these things within your own people? That is something, I dont understand. If just this simple respect to others we cannot practice, how can we handle big changes to help us progress in life.

Might have been he (Real Tamilan) expressed himself in a bold way. You have to admit, undisciplined people are everywhere. Don’t be proud being selfish.

  12. Ramesh Says:

If your comment is really useful for me or us and if i m very curious to know your comment , i will learn or i will ask someone who knows your language to translate and translation is not much difficult in this high-tech world.

Anyway Sorry Raja has wriiten about the tamil society, i thought everyone in this group knows tamil.. and i can not express my thoughts effectively through english thats y i have written in tamil……

  13. Elaine P Ganapathy Says:

You dont need to trouble yourself spending 1 year to understand another language. That is why we have universal language. It is use globally, where we can do tradings and transactions.

And if I know I won’t make any sense at all… I will just keep the idea in a box and throw it in the garbage.

can any indian tell me that he follows all this…

if we have many indians like this surely our country will develop…dont ask me “hi common if we dont spit on road how will india develop….thats wher the point is…self respect is best respect…when u cant respect ur mother land.. there comes the human respect to one another……….not only english man..even black man will come and ffffff our country…
